Tulum is absolutely stunning! Just about everywhere, there is a beautiful photo waiting to be taken. Here are the best photo spots in Tulum (we think) and a few tips we learned along the way

Azulik’s

This is the amazing treehouse that is probably the most famous sight in Tulum. Unfortunately, they are so well known that their prices reflect it. Pro Tip: There are three ways to see Azulik’s without booking a hotel room there. The first way is to book a dinner reservation at one of their restaurants. The prices were still a bit steep for us; however, it was totally worth it to get a few drinks and an appetizer. We ate at Kin Toh. They have the well know tables and nets looking over-looking the jungle.  Make sure you make reservations. The people behind us had to sit at the bar and the view was not as wonderful. The nets anyone can sit in and it’s actually a bit of a free-for-all with everyone taking pictures. The fancy nest tables are a different story. At first, we just tried to take a picture in front of tables. We were told that there is a minimum price of $1000 to eat there, and it was $200 just to take pictures. After sitting back down, we asked our waiter how everyone was taking pictures. He said that he could take us no problem. The trick with those pictures is to just ask the waiter and leave him a tip for it. Our waiter was pretty much a professional photographer, so it was absolutely worth it! The next way is to check it out from the beach. We actually stayed at a hotel a few doors down and found a path to the beach Aulik’s was on, so we ended up with a pretty neat view of the treehouses from there. The last way is to go check out the museum. It’s open from 10 am to 5 pm, except for when they are hosting private events. It’s free and anyone can go check it out.

Heart Opening at Ahau

This beautiful piece of art is actually the entrance to the Ahau Hotel. You will see it right on the main beach street. All you have to is look up Ahau on google maps. When we first saw it, there was quite a line. We decided to go in and grab a smoothie bowl from Raw love, which is right inside the hotel. When we were leaving, there wasn’t a line. So, we jumped in and grabbed a few pictures. It was super simple and quite a nice picture to have.

Mi Amor Hotel

I know I rave about Mi Amor on every blog post, but it was so wonderful! The entire hotel is an amazing photo opportunity! The particular picture was taken after we did a little climbing to face south and catch a perfect sunset. They also have an amazing pool area and oceanfront cabanas if you are a guest of the hotel. If a guest room is not in your cards or maybe a bit pricey, they have an amazing happy hour everyday from 12- 5 pm where you can get some amazing photos without breaking the bank.

The Ruins

So, this was this first time I had seen an ancient temple overlooking a beautiful white sand beach. It was incredible! It is impressive to see how well the ruins are preserved considering their proximity to the ocean. You can take photos close to the temples or grab one overlooking the ocean with the temples in the background. They are both amazing! There is an entrance fee of $65 pesos which is about $3.50 in American dollars and it does get pretty busy and hot in the afternoon. Luckily, you can go for a swim in the ocean area with an amazing view of the ruins in the back. It would suggest getting there early. Also, public parking can be a bit of an issue. I would suggest riding a bike from your hotel.

Cenote Calavera

This Cenote is also known as the Temple of Doom but is anything but! It is twenty minutes from Tulum in the road to Coba. It was quite pricey at almost $20 American, but we loved the vibe. It’s a smaller Cenote but has a few places to jump off and plenty of space to swim. Everyone was taking pictures too! We all ended up taking pictures of each other without waiting in a line which was awesome!

The Orchid House

The Orchid House has one of the best vibes. It was like being in a modern jungle and it was fairly inexpensive to stay here because it was off the beach. They have a beautiful pool that is on the second floor and covered in trees, a jungle on the bottom floor, and an Azulik-like nest on the very top! We could go up there all we wanted without trying. It was great!

There really isn’t a bad place to take pictures in Tulum! These are our favorites. Hopefully, we gave you a mixture of popular and original spots.

Until next time,

Dez and Jordan
