This dispersed camping just outside of Flagstaff has been one of our favorite spots so far! It was about an 1 1/2 drive on a dirt road, but it was worth it!
How to get there:
So, this is the tricky part. Coming from Sedona, we took 89A north and turned left on Country Road 535. Then, we stayed on the main road until we saw cliffside views. There were several amazing campsites with incredible views. We had an all-wheel-drive SUV, which made it pretty easy. It was right after the rain, so there were a few muddy spots we had to maneuver around. Otherwise, we were just fine. Check the rain forecast in Flagstaff to determine if you need a SUV on this trip.
The Jenga Rock:
This is honestly the reason we decided on this particular camping spot; however, we would go without it for just the views. Getting to the Jenga rock was a bit tricky. Google maps does a pretty good job of getting you close, but you still need to venture down a few roads on your own to find it. Here is a snip of where the road ends, and how we got there.
East Pocket:
We ended up camping in at the East Pocket. We didn’t plan it this way, but it was getting dark and we couldn’t find the Jenga rock for the first overnight camping. It completely worked out though. The views were still breathtaking and we got in a few hikes before breakfast. This campsite is straight down the main road until you have amazing cliffside views.
Until next time,
Jordan and Dez
